Atterholt, Nicholas
Nicholas Atterholt is a double major in English and History. He has been an active leader in his fraternity, Delta Theta Sigma, and he has been accepted into several honor societies including Order of Omega, and Phi Kappa Phi. He is a member of Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, and has been active in Relay for Life. Nicholas plans to go to law school to be an agricultural lawyer after graduation.

Ballantyne, Danielle
Danielle Ballantyne is a junior majoring in food science in the College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences. She is involved in Alpha Phi Omega, Student for Recycling, and Peer Advocates for Total Health. Danielle enjoys serving the community and has participated in various activities. Some of her projects include, tutoring at Hilliard schools, volunteering at food pantries, teaching swim lessons to autistic children, volunteering at the Franklin County Animal Shelter, and counseling at Camp Heartland in California. Aside from school work, she enjoys cooking, spending time with friends and family, traveling, and outdoor sports. Danielle enjoys having fun and isn’t afraid to bust-a-move to Michael Jackson. As a lover of food and traveling, Danielle plans to “eat her way” around the world after graduation. Upon her return, she plans to use her food science degree to do research and development for a major food company. In her career, she will strive to develop nutritious, yet delicious food. In the mean time, prior to graduation, Danielle, will continue to experience new things and new people, but will never forget the most important things in life, food, laughter and dancing!

Barnes, Andrea
Andrea Barnes began her career at The Ohio State University as a Tomorrow’s Teacher Scholar. She decided to pursue a career in the education influenced in part from working at her grandparents’ summer camp. She has chosen secondary education to share her love of history and other cultures. During her freshman year she became a member of Alpha Phi sorority and became involved in the chapter’s history project. Her sophomore year, Andrea was elected Director of Membership Development, responsible for activities to encourage relationship-building amongst members. She is currently the Vice President of Program Development and her job is to retain, educate, develop and inspire members of Alpha Phi. Andrea started her academic achievements as a freshman, being accepted into Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma. As a sophomore she was accepted into Phi Alpha theta, the history honorary. As a junior, Andrea was also accepted into Phi Kappa Phi, an honor society recognizing the top 7.5% of juniors, and was also acknowledged by the Greek community by being accepted into the Order of Omega. After graduation, Andrea hopes to attend graduate school at OSU and earn her Master’s Degree in Integrated Social Studies to teach high school history and coach gymnastics/cheerleading.

Best, Brittany
Brittany Best is a third-year Psychology major in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. She is thoroughly enjoying the major and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. Her ultimate goal is to open a private Psychology practice and specialize in Sports Psychology. When first accepted to OSU, Brittany was also accepted into the Mount Leadership Society Scholars Program. Mount allowed her to become involved in many community service activities in college. Her favorite service project completed through Mount was tutoring elementary and middle school children in downtown Columbus at the East Broad Street Presbyterian Church. Brittany has been a figure skater for twelve years. She currently coaches young skaters and skating was a major factor in her decision to choose Sports Psychology as a career path. Brittany is also on the OSU Figure Skating Club team and an active member of Alpha Xi Sorority.

Bradshaw, Fawn
Fawn Bradshaw is currently part of the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University. She is majoring in Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, and minoring in music. One of her proudest accomplishments is presenting her research, Usefulness of Infrared Dynamic Pupillometry in Diagnosis of Small Fiber Neuropathy, at the American Academy of Neurology. During her past two summers, she volunteered at the Cleveland Clinic to do research in both drug delivery and diagnosing neurological diseases in order to improve patients’ medical experiences. She was awarded the Excellence Scholarship through the Office of Minority Affairs, Tradition Scholarship through MAXIMUS competition, and other various scholarships through the Engineering Department. After graduation, Fawns hopes to either go directly into industry, continue her research in graduate school, or attend law school to specialize in patent litigation.

Caspary, Christopher
Christopher Caspary is a Political Science major at The Ohio State University in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences; he is also in the Pre-Law and Business Minor Programs. Chris was previously an intern with the Ohio House of Representatives, and has been on the Dean’s List numerous times. He is also quite involved within the campus community. Chris is a current member of The Ohio Union Activities Board, is involved with Buckeyethon, Buck-I-Frenzy, Convocation, and is also a UAFYE Telecounselor. After graduation, Chris plans to attend law school.

Chao, Jennifer
A Biomedical Science major in the College of Allied Medical Professionals and music minor, Jennifer is currently nearing the end of her third year at OSU. She hails from Baltimore, Maryland, but is a Buckeye through and through! Since her freshman year, Jennifer has been doing breast cancer research at OSU’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, last summer, the Office of Undergraduate Research at OSU selected her as one of thirteen undergraduate research fellows to perform research across a broad variety of fields on campus. Jennifer would like to attend medical school after graduation and dreams of one day being a pediatric oncologist who can combine her love of children with the possibility of serving others in difficult situations. Jennifer is also an avid musician and plays piano, violin, and flute; she is a violinist in the OSU Symphony Orchestra as well as a church pianist. Some of her other pursuits include volunteering with the English Conversation Partners program, serving as a teaching assistant in the Chemistry Department, and snapping lots of pictures as the outgoing Historian of Chimes Junior Class Honorary. As an incoming member of Mortar Board, Jennifer is incredibly excited to be a part of the 96th class!

Checovich, Allyn
Allyn Checovich is currently an honors student in the Undergraduate Biomedical Science Major Program at Ohio State, in the college of Allied Medical Professionals. She is pursuing a minor of Forensic Science in the Anthropology department. She has been on the Dean’s list every quarter, and has earned scholarships both from the university and outside sources such as International Brotherhood of Teamsters. She has worked in a human cancer genetics research lab for the past two years, and is currently working on a project of her own studying chronic Lymphocytic leukemia. Allyn also volunteers for the James Cancer Hospital, and is very active in volunteering to help on Biomedical Science Major Program interviews and honors visit days. In additional to academics and service, Allyn, has been the event planning chair for Mirrors Sophomore Class Honorary, and is the current Ohio State Undergraduate Student Government Treasurer. She sits on the Allocations Sub-committee for the Council of Student Affairs, and also enjoys playing intramural sand volleyball during Spring quarter. Next year, she plans on attending medical school to pursue a career in forensic pathology.

Chou, Claudia
Claudia is a biomedical science major and women’s studies minor from West Chester, Ohio. Most of her time is spent on classes, cancer research, and volunteering, but she has been known to spend the occasional night baking or dancing. This year she was thrilled to be inducted into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi. Claudia has exciting plans for making her senior year the best year of undergrad. These plans include studying abroad in China, Finally getting “A” deck football tickets, and of course, being an active member of Mortar Board. After graduation, Claudia plans to attend medical school.

Combs, Erica

Erica is a Junior Speech and Hearing Sciences major in the college of Arts and Sciences. She is currently and has been in the past on the Dean’s List here at The Ohio State University. Erica is an active member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She currently holds two positions within the organization – ritual chair and fraternity heritage chair. She is also a member of the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association and volunteers at the Columbus Speech and Hearing Center. She plans to attend graduate school after graduation next June and complete a Doctoral degree in Audiology, eventually becoming an Audiologist. She would like to work in a hospital with patients who have received cochlear implants.

Demski, Megan
Megan Demski is a third year student and has been accepted into the Special Education undergraduate program at Ohio State University. Megan has received a 3.80 cumulative GPA. Since beginning college, Megan has been a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority, Ohio State Ski club, Ohio State All Girl Cheerleading, two honor fraternities, Buckeye Leadership Society, Autism Speaks Student Organization, volunteer at Columbus Speech and Hearing Center and volunteer cabin counselor at Camp Boggy Creek. Megan also seasonally works at The Ku Tea Company, an independently owned business for which she is a shift manager. Megan also has donated her hair to Lock of Love for children with Cancer. Megan has been awarded the Outstanding New Member Greek award and has held many positions within her sorority including Activities Chair and Assistant New Member Educator. Megan plans to become a moderate to intensive special education for ages k-6.

Diaz, Elizabeth
Elizabeth is currently an Honors Spanish major in the College of Humanities. She will (hopefully) be graduating next spring and plans to volunteer in South America for a year before attending medical school to become a pediatrician. She is a recipient of a University Scholarship, Ohio Academic Scholarship, and the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship and has been on the Dean’s List every quarter since she started at OSU. One of her passions is volunteering and she helps out at her church, is involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio, and helps fundraise for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Elizabeth’s life changed her senior year of high school when her dad finally convinced her to apply to Ohio State, even though the campus is only 15 minutes away from her childhood home. Being a Buckeye is one of the things of which she is most proud and she could not imagine herself at any other school in the country. She is very excited to become a part of Mortar Board!

Flowers, Doug
Doug Flowers graduated from Dublin Coffman High School in the spring of 2006 with his sights set on the University of Cincinnati. Doug was accepted into the College of Business as a marketing major. During his freshman and sophomore years at UC, Doug became involved in his residence hall government and an events planning committee for the College of Business. Doug joined a fraternity where he immediately took on leadership positions. During his stay in Cincinnati, Doug partook in several community service and philanthropies projects such as adopt-a-road, Relay for Life, as well as raising money for the Make-a-Wish foundation. During the summers, Doug traveled to Eustis Florida to volunteer at a camp for seriously ill children with Cancer and HIV. After his second year, he discovered an opportunity at The Ohio State University and applied for The Fisher College of Business. He was immediately accepted into his major of Marketing. Since becoming a Buckeye, Doug has become involved in his fraternities chapter on campus and joined OUAB while never regretting moving back to Columbus.

Gaborcik, Joshua
Josh Gaborcik was born and raised in Central Ohio. Throughout his college career, he has stepped out of the comfort zone and has taken several leadership roles on campus. He has been an OWL-Coordinator, an Office Assistant, a Resident Advisor, a member of the Student Leadership Advocates, and is currently applying to become a Resident Manager for the 2009-2010 school year. Josh plans to graduate at the end of spring quarter 2010 with a major in Pharmaceutical Sciences. He has been an active member in his community by serving and volunteering at nonprofit organizations such as the Arthritis Foundation and the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America. Upon graduation from The Ohio State University, Josh hopes to attend Pharmacy School to receive his PharmD. Josh hopes to attend the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy or Pharmacy School down south. One day, he hopes to work in a hospital setting and work in conjunction with doctors and nurses, and see patients on a daily basis.

Goad, Brittany
Brittany Goad is an Accounting major with an Economics minor. She is currently working as a Peer Advisor in the Fisher College of Business and participates in the 2008-2009 Honors Cohort Program. This summer, Brittany will be going to Houston, TX where it will be an average of 95 degrees every day! She will work for Shell Oil as an Intern in Houston followed by working for Plante & Moran in the Winter of 2010 as an accounting intern. After graduation, she wants to work in accounting for a few years before starting her own event planning business in the South- no more cold weather!

Halpin, Julie
Julie Halpin, the daughter of Mike and Janice Halpin, has come a long way in her three years at Ohio State. Graduating in a class of forty five students, Ohio State seemed like a large and scary place. Coming here and joining the Mount Scholars program she as found a second home full of possibilities and opportunities. She is most passionate about volunteering, serving others, and striving to put other people before herself. She is involved with Scholar Ambassadors, The Buck-I-Frenzy Planning Committee, and serves as a Student Coordinator for the Mount Leadership Society, where she is in charge of first year experience. Majoring in Strategic Communication and Family Studies she hopes to join the Peace Corps after college and then go on in helping students by achieving her masters in Student Affairs and Higher Education. It’s been a long and strange journey but feels that she has made a positive impact on the people around her and cannot wait for the adventures that she is about to endure in her last year here at The Ohio State University.

Halter, Joshua
Josh Halter is a junior majoring in Economics in the Fisher College of Business. For the past three years Josh has excelled both in and outside the classroom. Placed on the Dean’s list for multiple quarters during his tenure at Ohio State, Josh has also been a part of “The Best Damn Band In The Land” for the past three football seasons. The highlight of his career came this past season when he served as “The Man Out Front” as Head Drum Major for The Ohio State University Marching Band. By being selected as Head Drum Major, Josh was awarded the Drum Major Scholarship, for full in-state tuition, and also receives the Trustee Scholarship on a quarterly basis for his cumulative GPA. Josh’s other activities and interests include photography, fishing, and summer camp counseling 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. After graduation, Josh would like to take his Economics degree and enter the banking industry and work in the personal finance sector.

Hansen, Matthew
In the month of January 2006, a young ambitious individual by the name of Matthew Hansen became a part of The Ohio State University as an honors engineering student. During that first year he learned the wonders of late night studying and late night conversations, helping out around the university, working at the Lincoln Tower front desk, and what evil creatures robots can be. During the next year, Matthew was accepted into the major of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering. In addition, during that sophomore year, Matthew became a Teaching Assistant with the Freshman Engineering Honors program in order to pass the knowledge ha head learned the previous year to other and to ensure that they enjoyed it just as much as he did. He also began mentoring with the FIRST robotics program at OSU. Junior year for Matthew has been an extension of the sophomore year, in devoting much time to studying, building friendships, and helping others to grow. Honors that Matthew has received include ALD/PES local scholarship and the Brenholts Scholarship. After graduation, Matthew is currently planning on going to graduate school in the Mechanical Engineering department, but the winds are always changing.

Hereda, Anne
Majoring in Geriatrics and Gerontology and minoring in disability studies, Anne Hereda, is an honors student that has had numerous successes throughout her college career. She began giving to The Ohio State community during her freshman year where she participated in many volunteer activities including OWLS, Pre-Health Giving Back, and hall council. During her sophomore year she taught over 200 undergraduate students about psychology concepts through her position as a course assistant. And in her junior year she put on a program called Pinwheels for Organ Donation which showed students, faculty, and staff the impact organ donation has on Ohio. Anne Continues to give through her job as a Safety Coach at Dodd Hall where she works with brain and spinal cord injury patients. While her job is very challenging, she enjoys every minute she has with her patients. She plans to continue volunteering, leading student groups, and being a successful scholar throughout her senior year. After graduation in 2010 Anne plans to attend graduate school to obtain a doctorate in Physical Therapy.

Herrera, Barbara
When Barbara Herrera was in seventh grade, she wrote a plan for her life: to become a doctor and save lives. However, a dreadful nine-letter word made her alter her plans: chemistry. Baffled to what her next step would be, Barbara knew whatever she did would involve helping others. As an immigrant from Panama and daughter to a single-mother, she is completely aware of how the help of others paved opportunities for her and her family. She chose to double major in Economics and International Development and minor in Public Policy. Her plan is to influence public policies that deny economic access and mobility to people within our own country and those in developing societies. Currently, her commitment to service is illustrated through her roles as Director of Student Outreach for the Undergraduate Student Government and Vice President of External Relations for the SERVICE Squad. Everyday, she feverishly works with the student organizations and student leaders in developing programs that positively impact the campus community. And, with SERVICE Squad, helps relay the importance of community service by enlisting volunteers to their five community service sites.

Hicks, Jacqueline
Originally a dance major at Wright State University, Jacqueline Hicks transferred to The Ohio State University during Fall quarter of 2008. Immediately, she became involved with the campus as the choreographer of Off the Lakes productions for both fall cabaret and spring musical, Aida. She also showed her school spirit in being a member of Block O. By winter quarter, Jacqueline wanted to become more involved in her major, English, and began founding the Alpha Pi Iota chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, International English honor Society. As the founding President, Jacqueline has helped Sigma Tau Delta reach out to the community through tutoring, book drives, and other community service projects. She has also guided Sigma Tau Delta in campus events such as its fall personal statement workshop and spring thesis session. A member of the University Career Services Community Student Advisory Board, Jacqueline works with a panel of fifteen student leaders and the Career Services Committee to improve career services and bring more career oriented opportunities to her classmates. After graduation, Jacqueline plans to continue reaching out to the community through education, as a member of Teach for America, and appreciation of the arts.

Hohenbrink, Ashleigh
Being a Buckeye is a family affair in the Hohenbrink household. Ashleigh Hohenbrink, the youngest of four Hohenbrink Buckeyes, is a senior majoring in Human Resources and Psychology. Ashleigh volunteers her time as an instrumentalist in the music ministry at the Newman Center, a mentor and tutor for after-school programs and for her local American Legion Auxiliary. She has participated in two study abroad programs and is a member of the Human Resources Association. Ashleigh has also held many positions in other activities such as the Mount Leadership Society and the Collegiate Young Farmers, planning and implementing a variety of service projects and trips. She also works in the Professional Admissions Office assisting prospective professional students. Upon graduation, Ashleigh hopes to build a career as a business psychologist.

Huffman, Tracee
Tracee Huffman certainly stays busy helping the Ohio State community. Besides serving as USG West Campus Senator and as chair of the Senate’s Committee on Student life, Tracee also holds leadership roles in the Arts and Sciences Colleges Student Council, Lincoln Hall Council, and Amnesty International OSU. Tracee serves as a member of the Committee on Academic Misconduct and as the undergraduate representative on the College of Arts and Sciences’ curriculum committee, where revision to majors, minors, and GECs are made for Arts and Sciences students, Interestingly, Tracee’s favorite place on campus is in the parking lot between Campbell and Jennings Hall, where a “No Entry” sign hangs because she noticed a problem with cars attempting to leave by driving down a dead-end road and alerted Traffic & Parking of the situation. Tracee is majoring in History and Political Science, minoring in Economics. Her summers are spent raising awareness for Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus’s home improvement store and assisting her high school’s main office. She plans to attend law school after graduation.

Kaufman, Megan
Megan Kaufman will be graduating with a dual degree in Accounting from the Fisher College of Business and Political Science from the College of Arts and Sciences. She is a member of the Honors Accounting Program in the business school as well as a member of the Politics, Society, and Law Scholars Program. She is an active member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority where she has held the position of philanthropy chair and activities chair. Megan also enjoyed being involved with the Undergraduate Business Women’s Association where she has served as the community service chair as well as the Waste Not Center representative. Apart from her academic schedule and extra-curricular activities, Megan enjoys spending her time volunteering with various community service organizations such as Hope Street Kids and the Waste Not Center. Upon graduation, Megan plans to attend law school, specializing in corporate and environmental law.

Lensenmayer, Amy
Amy Lensenmayer, a Dublin, Ohio native, is an Evolution and Ecology major and Business Minor. Amy loves working with children and plans to be a pediatric dentist. She is a member of the Delta Omega Kappa, a pre-health sorority for women in medicine, and serves on the Executive Board as Alumni Chair. Amy, an avid Buckeye, has served on the Ohio Union Activities Board, as an OSU Access Ambassador, and an Honors Ambassador. Walking seems to be a favorite pastime, as she walks in the United Negro College Fund Columbus Walk-a-thon, helps with the Walk for Diabetes and walks dogs for the Capital Area Human Society. One of Amy’s greatest joys is working with elementary school children, both tutoring and promoting the benefits of college to minorities and underprivileged youth.

Longbottom, Liane
Liane Longbottom is from Medina, Ohio. She is majoring in Zoology and minoring in Business and a student of the College of Biological Sciences. After graduation, Liane plans to attend Veterinary School. She enjoys shadowing at different Veterinary Clinics to gain experience for her future in the career. She currently works as a Student Manager in Morrill Fresh Express and as a Research Assistant in the Fishel Lab. When not at work or in class, she enjoys volunteering her time. Liane has spent the last year involved with Bucket & Dipper, coordinating a volunteer program for undergraduates at OSU Vet Hospital, and riding horses as a member of Ohio State’s Hunt Seat Equestrian Team. Liane is currently in the process of becoming a Resident Advisor and is keeping her fingers crossed she will be picked. She is extremely excited about her induction into Mortar Board and can’t wait to spend the next year with all these amazing new members!

Madden, Emily
Emily Madden is a student in the College of Human Ecology specializing in Fashion Merchandising, with a minor in Business. Some may be wondering if Fashion Merchandising is even a major, and she will assure you that it is more than just shopping, but is everything from chemical composition of your clothing to how it is displayed in stores! Emily is an active member in Major Campus Events Committee here at Ohio State, helping to plan a completely new ever this year dedicated to the arts, as well as helping to direct the Student Involvement Fair and to make sure that there is plenty of free stuff for the students. She also has taken an active role in the Fashion Student Organization and has had the opportunity to start her own jewelry business. Miss Em’s Fine Jewels and Accessories, often referred to as “Miss Em’s.” After graduation she is planning on working for a company she loves, where she can stay in close contact with her family in Cincinnati. She is hoping that her jewelry business will be even more successful than it is today and eventually be able to open up her own boutique.

Meyer, Stephanie
Stephanie Meyer is an Honors Microbiology major in the College of Biological Sciences with an English minor from the College of Humanities. Her passion for science blossomed during her time at Ursuline Academy of Cincinnati, where she conducted an independent experiment on oral micro biota. Since then, Stephanie has researched the parasitic protozoan Leishmania, and currently studies osteoclasts at the College of Medicine in the lab of Dr. Beth Lee. In addition to academics, Stephanie is a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Emerging Leaders board, a team dedicated to developing strong leadership and service skills in future physicians. Further, she is a volunteer at Physician’s Free Clinic, on the Relay for Life Committee, and was a fund-raising chair in both the Mirrors Sophomore and Chimes Junior Honoraries. Additionally Stephanie served as a teaching associate in OSU’s Department of Chemistry, as well as in the Department of Microbiology. Her past two summers has included interning at Procter and Gamble, where she researched and developed Family Care products. After graduation, Stephanie plans to attend medical school to become a pediatrician. She is honored to be a member of this incredible group of seniors, and can’t wait for the year to begin!

Okuley, Adam
Adam is an International Studies and French double major with a minor in economics, from the College of Humanities. A graduate of Kenwood French immersion school and St. Charles High School in Columbus, Adam has a great interest in European Languages and cultures and plans to spend next summer in France and England. Adam is also an avid sports fan, having been a part of flag football, volleyball, soccer and hockey intramural teams as well as being a part of the staff for the Ohio State football team. Adam has been an honors student since his arrival at Ohio State, and is currently a Deputy Director on the USG cabinet and is also a member of the University Recreational Sports Committee. I the summer of 2007 Adam traveled with other student to Slidell, Louisiana to build houses for those affected by Hurricane Katrina. He plans to attend law school and pursue a career in international law or diplomacy.

Pandya, Monali
Monali Pandya is a third year student in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Microbiology and Spanish. She is a part of the Ohio State Honors Program and has shown commitment to her studies by receiving an Achievement Award in Mathematics. She has also received a merit scholarship from the Morrill Scholars Program for her academic achievements in high school and college. In addition to completing coursework, Monali has been involved in numerous organizations on campus. She has volunteered at the James Cancer Research Hospital for two years and participated in activities during Community Commitment Day every year. Furthermore, she has been the sustainability chair for Bradley-Patterson Hall Council to raise awareness about environmental problems in the dorms. Moreover, Monali has tutored through Wonders of Our World and Hilliard CARES and mentored through the OMA Mentoring program. She is also doing research in the field of Microbiology to apply the knowledge she has acquired at Ohio State. After graduating, she plans to attend medical school and become a cardiologist.

Phelps, Amber
Amber Phelps is a journalism and political science dual degree student with minors in women’s studies and sexuality studies. Amber is an honors student, Politics, Society and Law Scholar, Morrill Scholar (An Office of Minority Affairs scholarship granting full in-state tuition), and has received a Presidential Scholarship. She is also the co-public relations director of the SLEF Beanie Drake Student Scholarship. Amber is currently a volunteer at Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth, a foster care agency for troubled youth. During her summers at OSU, Amber has been a Student Research Opportunity Program and STARS scholar. She has completed two research theses and has presented her work, "Communicating the Black Lesbian Identity" and "Exploring the Blogophere's Impact on American Politics: The Case of Michelle Obama," at several conferences including Michigan State and OSU's SROP Research Symposium. Amber spends her free time with hanging out with friends, playing guitar hero and rock band, and reading political blogs. After graduation, Amber plans on attending law school and is interested in pursuing a career in mass communication/intellectual property law.

Roderer, Stephen
Stephen is a third year Biomedical Sciences major in the School of Allied Medical Professions with minors in Economics and Music. He enjoys listening to music and playing the piano, and is involved in jazz combos and the music program here at Ohio State. He spends some of his time volunteering at the University Medical Center and is involved in researching skeletal muscle pathology under the director of Dr. Jill Rafael-Fortney in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry. He enjoys spending time with this friends and family, and relaxing at home on the weekends. Stephen plans on applying to medical school following graduation and aspires to becoming an ophthalmologist in a large city.

Rudd, Robert (Matt)
As a chemical and bimolecular engineering and pre-medical student, Matt Rudd has to balance class work with extracurricular activities as well as leave a little time for himself just to relax and have a good time. So far he has done a pretty good job as he is an honor student with a 3.53 GPA and is involved in a number of clubs and organizations. Since he was a freshman in 2006, he has made the Dean’s List four times. He is a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma. Last year he was on the internal and external social committees for ALD/PES on which he aided in organizing social events for the honor society. He is also a member of the Ohio State triathlon club and has played both football and softball intramural sports. He is currently an HIV test counselor at the Ohio State Wellness Center. When he is finished earning his undergraduate degree, Matt will pursue his desire to enroll in medical school and become a radiation oncologist.

Schooley, James
James Schooley is in his second year of the Early Admission Pathway into The Ohio State University College of Medicine. The EAP is a seven-year combined undergraduate/medical school program offered to a select group of National Merit Finalists. As part of his admission into this program, James received the Distinguished Scholar/National Merit scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship. James plans to complete his undergraduate degree in biology in three years and will begin medical school after graduation. James was a delegate to the Second Orthodox Christian International Youth Conference held in Istanbul, Turkey where he met Patriarch Bartholomew and worked with youth from around the world. This summer he plans to work delivering medical supplies and building a homeless shelter at a Native American reservation in Montana. James volunteers as a youth basketball coach and has worked to raise awareness and funding for autism research. He is Recruitment Chair for Sigma Epsilon Phi social fraternity, a member of OSU’s Orthodox Christian Fellowship Chapter, plays intramural basketball, is a member of several honoraries and is a research volunteer in the College of Public Health. He may be seen every Labor Day weekend dancing in a white evzone skirt at the Columbus Greek Festival.

Sheridan, Michelle
With great pleasure I would like to introduce to you Michelle Sheridan, Michelle is a non-traditional transfer student from California. She has transferred to Ohio State with an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts, which she received with honors. She is currently a junior at Ohio State and is a dual major in Spanish and Russian in the college of Arts and Sciences. She has studied abroad in Brazil for a year and this summer will be studying in Tomsk, Siberia. She is the International Committee Chair for the Rotaract Club of OSU, and has just recently returned from her international trip to Lima, Peru. She is looking forward to providing her assistance to our service projects, as well as bringing in some fresh ideas. She enjoys participating in community service and is looking into one of OSU’s intramural sports teams for this coming autumn. After her spring graduation in 2010 she will pursue a career in Federal Law enforcement. In this career she will be heavily relying on her language skills and cultural experiences. So once again it is my great pleasure to introduce Michelle Sheridan.

Sieron, Geoffrey
Our next inductee is a regular James Bond. You can ask him what he does, and he would gladly tell you, but then he would have to kill you. His name is Geoff Sieron. Geoff is a fifth year senior Mechanical Engineering major in the College of Engineering. Geoff started out his career in Steeb Hall as the hall treasurer. After dabbling in the finances department, Geoff moved on to become a member of Ohio State’s Mini Baja SAE Team. This team designed and built from scratch an all-terrain vehicle. That following summer, Geoff began his first job at Wright Patterson Air Force Base working in the Research Labs. He has since worked three co-op rotations there at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center and will work one last one this summer. During his time at the base, Geoff actively volunteered at Blood drives and festivals for the military. Inside the classroom, Geoff made the Dean’s List in Autumn quarter ’08. He was also a Peer Mentor for freshmen engineering students. After graduation, Geoff hopes to work at Wright Patt in a research position and possibly go back to school to get his Master’s Degree.

Silver, Kristin
Kristin Silver is an Honors student majoring in Psychology and Slavic and Eastern European Studies, with a minor in neuroscience. Her programs are within the colleges of the Social and Behavioral Sciences as well as the Humanities. Apart from being an involved OSU student and scholars, she studies at the prestigious Charles University of Prague, Czech Republic. She is the recipient of many awards and scholarships, and a member of multiple honor societies, including Psi Chi, Phi Kappa Phi, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is the current President-Elect of OSU’s Psychology Club, one of the university’s largest student organizations, and is pursing both graduation with Honors and graduation with research distinction in psychology. She is involved not only with research and leadership activities but also works as a mental health and women’s advocate. Kristin plans to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology and dreams of working as both a skilled clinician and an eminent researcher at the international level.

Smithers, Catherine
Catherine Smithers is involved in way too many things for her own good, hence her caffeine addiction. One cup of coffee goes to her research, involving the impact of stress on health, and research in consumer behavior. One cup of coffee goes to the Speech and Debate team at Ohio State, another cup of coffee goes to her Social and Behavioral Sciences majors of Psychology and Economics. Of course if we are buying Starbucks here you need to throw in plenty of sugar which would be Catherine’s involvement in Undergraduate Student Government. Finally, the whip cream with the chocolate drizzle are Catherine’s future plants (The future always looks the most appetizing) of earning a Ph.D. in Quantitative Psychology and hopefully one day giving out assignments that do not make students drink so much coffee!

Stuart, Julia
Julia Stuart is a junior majoring in Nursing with a minor in English. She is a dedicated member of Chi Omega sorority. She has been a part of the honorary system since her freshman year, serving as a member of ALD/PES freshman class honorary, Mirrors Sophomore Class Honorary, and Chimes Junior Class Honorary. She is also involved with Nursing Student Council, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Golden Key International Honor Society. Julia was awarded The Ohio State University Traditions Scholarship, as well as an Honors and Scholars Travel Grant for a student abroad opportunity in Greece during 2008. After graduation, Julia, hopes to  pursue a Doctorate of Nursing Practice specializing in women’s health.

Sun, Judy

Judy Sun is a senior majoring in Finance and minoring in Chinese. She has been involved with the Asian American community on campus and across college campuses. Judy currently serves as the Chairperson of the national non-profit organization called the Midwest Asian American Students Union. Judy is also in the Honors Contract Program at the Fisher College of Business. Upon graduation in June 2010, Judy will join Fortune 18 company Cardinal Health's Financial Development Program as a Senior Analyst.

Swillinger, Megan
Megan Swillinger is a junior here at Ohio State, seeking two bachelor’s degrees. One is in International Studies, the other in Political Science. Both are in the college of Arts and Sciences. Megan started her Ohio State career in the International Affairs Scholars program and traveled to Senegal West Africa her freshman year. She had the privilege to speak at Dr. Gordon Gee’s Presidential Pre Game brunch, sharing the stories of her travels. Megan serves as a Scholars Ambassador, guiding prospective students and fielding the questions of their parents. She also helps students on campus by serving as a Peer Career Advisor. With this position she critiques resumes and helps students with the college of Arts and Sciences find jobs and internships. Megan has spent the last year planning the celebration of 65 years of International Studies at Ohio State. There have been a number of events, most notably hosting the former President of Ireland and UN High Commissioner, Mary Robinson. Megan lives in the off-campus community and serves as a Community Ambassador for 9th and 10th avenues. With this position she helps promote community safety and cohesion. She is honored to be a part of Mortar Board.

Tan, David
David Tan is a double majoring in Political Sciences and International Studies with a specialization in International Relations and Diplomacy, and minoring in Chinese. A man of diverse background, he was born in Akron, Ohio, and at the age of eleven he moved to Hong Kong, S.A.R. (Special Administrative Region) China to attend Hong Kong International School, and in his junior year he moved to Shanghai, China attending Shanghai American School. After he was accepted into The Ohio State University, his family moved, ironically, to Novi, Michigan. David was one of many who built houses for the victims of the terrible Tsunami of December 2004. he plays a grand total of eight instruments and is one of the found leaders of AAIV (Asian American InterVarsity Christian Fellowship). He loves to play guitar and lead worship at InterVarsity and at his church CGC in Michigan. In the past summer, he has helped out at the Gleaners Food Bank in Detroit. David has been interning with the Ohio Senate for the past year and has an extreme passion for the best smoothing place in the world, Intajuice. He hopes upon graduation to either work in public policy, or attend law school in Georgetown.

Truong, Kim
Kim is a third year biology student in the College of Arts and Sciences who aspires to go to medical school. On campus, Kim is actively involved with the Asian American student organizations and spends her time spreading diversity through her involvement with the Vietnamese Student Association, performing dances with the Pilipino Student Association, and collaborations with the Chinese Student Association. Kim also enjoys volunteering at her position at the Ohio State Medical Center and working at the Leukemia Tissue Bank, which aides in the research of cancer.

Tseng, Stephanie
Stephanie Tseng is a pre-med student in the College of Biological Sciences, and is double majoring in Biology and Psychology. She is a member of The Oho Union Activities board, the Student Advisor in the Freshman Honorary Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma, and the Get on The Ball Co-Chair in Chimes Junior Class Honorary. She has received the University, Prestige, and Walters Scholarships at Ohio State. Stephanie has been on the Dean’s List and is a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Stephanie is involved in undergraduate research working on her Senior Thesis project studying breast cancer, and is also a Peer Research Contact through the Undergraduate Research Office. Last summer she won the Mayers Summer Research Scholarship that allowed her to work in her research lab full time. After graduation, Stephanie, plans to attend medical school and become a physician.

Van Brocklin, Meagan
Meagan is earning a dual degree in international studies and political science. She has received the Trustee Scholarship, the Sipp Scholarship, and the James C. Cotting Grant, among others. During the summer of 2008, Megan studied abroad in Italy. She is the co-captain of the OSU Crew’s Club women’s team and is a member of the Mount Leadership Society. She has also worked with Undergraduate Student Government and Collegiate 4-H. After graduation, Megan plans to pursue a law degree.

Vela, Cory
Cory is majoring in Pharmaceutical Sciences here at The Ohio State University. Since Cory started college he began working as an undergraduate researcher, participating in the Ohio Union Activities Board and Education Chairman in the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta. Due to his extensive involvement in undergraduate research, Cory has received an undergraduate research scholarship from the College of Pharmacy for two years in a row. Annually he participates in the FIJI/PIKE Rivalry Run and Buckeyethon to help raise money for the American Cancer Society and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, respectively. He also volunteers for the College of Pharmacy and their Honors and Scholars program to meet with prospective students and provide an insight about Ohio State. After completing his bachelor’s degree Cory plans to pursue a PharmD, at minimum, and Ph.D. or MS in Pharmaceutics.

Weinberg, Joseph
Joseph Weinberg is currently majoring in Sports and Leisure Studies with minors in Communication and Multidisciplinary Legal Foundations of Society. He is a member of The Ohio State University Honors Program and Politics, Society, and Law Scholars Program. Joseph belongs to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and currently has a 3.83 GPA. Also, Joseph is a member of the Sports and Leisure Studies Club and used to belong to Phi Kappa Tau fraternity where he was Associate Member President and Vice President of Finances. During his sophomore year of college, Joseph interned with State Representative Josh Mandel and obtained valuable experience in Ohio politics. Following graduation, Joseph plans on attending law school and acquiring a masters degree in sports management.

Wyszynski, Tim
Tim Wyszynski is a rank three second year at The Ohio State University, majoring in Animal Sciences in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. Minoring in Life Sciences, Tim is a pre-veterinary medicine student in the prestigious University Honors Program. As a freshman, Tim was awarded with the OSU Medalist Scholarship, covering the cost of in-state tuition, renewable for four years. Tim plans to graduate with his Bachelor of Science degree in three years, and then continue his education at The College of Veterinary Medicine here at Ohio State. He has been involved in numerous extracurricular activities including the Buckeye Barbeque club, pre-veterinary medicine organization, club table tennis, H2O campus ministry, and soccer, basketball, and flag football intramurals. In additional, Tim has volunteered in such endeavors as OSU Scarlet and Gray Ag day, the OSU Maximums scholarship competition, and even as a veterinary technician at Stow-Kent Animal Hospital. Upon graduation with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, Tim Plans to return to a university setting as a large-animal teaching clinician.
